BEARS VS. WOLFPACK
- Cal and NC State will meet for the second time in program history and first game at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. this Saturday.
- The Golden Bears and the Wolfpack first met on October 19, 2024, in Berkeley, when the Bears were edged, 24-23, by the Pack.
CAL...
- Is playing its second of three consecutive conference games on the road. The Bears have a Week 10 bye in between its back-to-back East coast trips to NC State (Oct. 31) and Virginia (Nov. 14).
- Ranks first in the ACC and seventh nationally in defensive touchdowns with two. DB Kingston Lopa registered a pick-six against Syracuse while ILB Kamar Mothudi had a scoop-and-score against Clemson.
- Ranks fourth in the ACC and 27th nationally in passes intercepted with seven. Five of those interceptions were registered to Lopa through the first three games while DB Isaiah Crosby logged an interception in the opening drive of the game against Clemson and DB Aiden Manutai intercepted a pass in the end zone against UNLV in the second quarter. Cal also ranks fourth in the ACC and ties for 42nd nationally in turnovers gained (10).
SAGAPOLUTELE HITS 5,000 CAREER PASSING YARDS MILESTONE
- QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele returned as Cal's starting signal-caller against SMU and provided a spark to the Bears' first-half offense, which scored on their first possession of the game on a seven-play, 65-yard drive.
- Sagapolutele had his second-most passing yards of the season against the Mustangs, totaling 265 yards through the air on 27 passing attempts. He had one passing touchdown to Chase Hendricks on Cal's first drive of the game.
- Sagapolutele has surpassed 5,000 career passing yards through 20 games played in his collegiate career. He has put up 1,555 this season through seven games (two of which he played less than half of the contest in).
- He is the second-fastest Cal quarterback in recent history to reach 5,000 passing yards as a Bear behind Jared Goff who reached the milestone in his first 17 games played between the 2013-14 seasons.
- Sagapolutele's 219 passing attempts this season are third-most in the ACC while his 68.0 completion percentage is fifth-best in the conference.
2 PLAYS TWO WAYS
- DB Kingston Lopa took his first offensive snap of his collegiate career last weekend at SMU as a wide receiver. He recorded his first reception for 11 yards to bolster a Cal offense that had limited pass-catchers available for the game.
- He was named a Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Semifinalist, making him one of 15 defensive backs nationwide on the short list for the award.
- Lopa still leads the nation with five interceptions for the seventh straight week, despite not playing against Virginia Tech and only playing only one snap at UNLV. He registered at least one takeaway in each of Cal's first three games this season.
- He needs one more interception to move into a tie for ninth place on Cal's single-season interceptions list.
TRIPLE-THREAT MASON
- TE Mason Mini now has touchdowns receiving, rushing and passing in his collegiate career after he gained points on the ground against SMU.
- Mini is now a member of an elite fraternity of Cal players in recent history to record touchdowns all three ways. Other notable triple-threats include: Keenan Allen (who had a passing TD in the 2010 Big Game, 17 career receiving TDs and two rushing TDs), Marshawn Lynch (who had a 20-yard passing TD in addition to 29 rushing TDs and six rushing TDs), Terrell Williams (who had one receiving TD, 8 rushing TDs and three TD passes) Chuck Muncie (who had three passing TDs, 32 rushing TDs and six receiving TDs) and Fernando Mendoza (who was credited with a receiving TD on a lateral pass against Oregon State in 2024 and had 30 passing TDs and four rushing TDs at Cal).
- Mini took a direct snap and muscled his way past the Mustangs' defense to dot down a score this past weekend, which was his third touchdown of the season.
SIDNEY REACHES 100 CAREER TACKLES
- DB Cam Sidney hit 100 career tackles during last weekend's game versus SMU. He has 102 total, 16 of which he has registered this season.
- Sidney has been a contributor to Cal's defense for the last four seasons, playing in nearly every game since 2023 to total 45 games played.
- Over half of his tackles are solo tackles (59) and eight have been credited as TFLs for a combined 27 yards.
- Sidney's other notable career defensive statistics include a pair of sacks, two interceptions, 11 passes defended, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
HENDRICKS HAULS IN THE NUMBERS
- WR Chase Hendricks leads the Bears in several receiving categories this season.
- Hendricks paces the Bears with three receiving touchdowns, 54 receptions and 498 receiving yards. He has led the Bears in receptions for six straight weeks.
- His 54 receptions tie for second-most in the ACC and his 6.8 receptions per game are fourth-most, while his receiving yards rank in the top-10 in the conference.
- Hendricks surpassed 2,000 career receiving yards in Cal's game versus Wake Forest. He now has 2,114 in his career. Hendricks compiled 1,616 yards receiving across three seasons at Ohio University.
- He set his Cal-best in the Bears' Week 2 win over Wagner with 9 catches for 98 receiving yards. His longest reception of the season was a 42-yard grab in the second quarter during Cal's win over Virginia Tech.
AUSSIE ANGUS PUNTS FOR OVER 9,000 YARDS
- With his 241 punting yards against SMU, Aussie punter Angus Davies surpassed 9,000 career punting yards. He compiled 7,488 yards punting across three seasons at Tulsa prior to Cal.
- Davies ranks third in the ACC with 1,670 punting yards this season.
- Of his 39 punts (which are second-most in the conference), 14 have been fair caught, nine have pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line and eight have been over 50 yards.
DAVIS DOES IT ALL
- True freshman DB Niles Davis was another notable Bear to take snaps on both sides of the ball this past weekend against SMU when he was put in the game at running back.
- Davis had four carries for 11 yards, including a 7-yard scamper, against the Mustangs.
- On defense, he recorded one tackle at SMU. He has totaled five tackles this season, including one TFL (-2 yards) and recovered a fumble at UNLV.
