No. 17 Bears Fall In Finale

No. 6 Stanford Earns Series Sweep On Sunday

BERKELEY – The No. 17 California softball team fell 7-4 to No. 6 Stanford in Game 3 of the Big Series on Sunday at Levine-Fricke Field.

Lagi Quiroga drove in three runs and hit her seventh homer of the year for the Golden Bears (21-7, 1-5 Pac-12). Caelan Koch hit a pair of home runs for the Cardinal (22-5, 3-0 Pac-12).

Stanford got on the board right away with a leadoff long ball from Taryn Kern, putting the pressure on the Bears right away. Cal fought back in the home half of the first, tying the game when Acacia Anders laced an RBI single up the middle.

Tied 1-1 for the second straight day, the Cardinal took the lead for good in the third on Koch's first homer of the afternoon. Quiroga plated the Bears' second run in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Stanford added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to make it 7-2 and Quiroga's 2-run blast in the seventh wasn't enough as a flyout ended the game to give the Cardinal the sweep.
