Cal-Central Arkansas Postgame Quotes

Cal Head Coach Wyking Jones

 On game overall:
"Major setback today. My philosophy all year is that we try to get better game in and game out. Today we made a major step in the wrong direction. We need to go back and figure it out. We are young but we can't keep using that as an excuse. We have to give better effort than that and we have to figure some things out as a staff, what works and what doesn't work with this group and hopefully take this loss and go back to the drawing board and  get better."

On what turned in the game:
"I felt like the effort on defense wasn't there. Our guys were hugging their men because they are a great shooting team. I felt like our guys were afraid to leave their men, and we weren't in help, or helping each other. We were pressuring the ball, but the only way pressuring the ball works is if you have guys on the weak side helping you in case of drives, or drives and kicks. It just felt like we weren't playing defense as a team. It was just more one-on-one defense."

On team moving forward:
"We've got to go back and look at the film, and pinpoint exactly what went wrong, and how they tide shifted on us."

California Forward Marcus Lee

On team's game preparation:
"We were prepared. Our coaches put us through exactly what we were given, but mentally, we were not prepared as a team. We took everything our coaches gave us and kind of just threw it out the window. And that's on me. I'm supposed to be the one who enforces and makes sure that we have the right effort, and that's not something I did today. I can't explain why it happened, but like coach said, we are going to try and figure it out and go on to the next."
