Adrian Swimming World Preview | Adrian's 50 Free Victory California's Nathan Adrian continues to prove he is one of the best freestyle sprinters in the nation, capturing the 100-meter freestyle (48.00) Friday, July 10, at the ConocoPhillips National Championships, held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Adrian, who had already earned a spot on the USA squad at the 2009 World Championships (July 26-August 2 in Rome) by winning the 50 free (21.52) on Thursday, now joins Michael Phelps (200 free, 200 fly) and Tyler Clary (400 IM, 200 fly) as the only male swimmers competing in more than one individual event at Worlds. 7/10/2009 - M. Water Polo
Former University of California standout John Mann paced the United States with six goals as Team USA defeated Italy, 11-8, Friday, July 10 at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. Mann played for the Golden Bears from 2003-06 and was named the winner of the 2006 Peter J. Cutino Award as the nation's top collegiate water polo player after helping lead Cal to the 2006 NCAA title. The USA squad, mentored by Bear head coach Kirk Everist, will next compete in the tournament's fifth-place match against Hungary (13-11 winner over Russia) on Sunday, July 12. FULL STORY

2009 Under 23 World Championships Trials Results Mary Jeghers of the California women's rowing team won her pairs race with teammate Grace Luczak at the 2009 Under 23 World Championships Trials on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. on Thursday. The crew was one of 15 that qualified to represent the United States at the FISA World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, later this month. FULL STORY

5/7/09 - Women's Water Polo
The California women's water polo team put forth the best season in school history in 2009. The Golden Bears finished the season 31-8 overall, which is the highest number of wins ever and ties the school record for highest winning percentage. This year's team not only scored the most goals in program history, but its goals per game average of 12.54 is also tops in the record books. |

The 2008 California women's soccer team recorded the program's 23rd winning season against difficult competition and was nationally ranked as high as No. 13 during the course of the year. The Golden Bears finished 10-9-1 overall and went 3-5-1 in Pacific-10 Conference play to finish sixth in the competitive league. |

Nathan Adrian needed some time away from Berkeley.As freshman swimmer on the 2006-07 California men's swimming & diving team, Adrian earned All-America honors in the 100-yard freestyle, as well as the 200 and 800 free relays, in his first year with the Bears. With an excellent chance to gain a spot on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, he believed he needed to spend the following year training full time to have a good shot of realizing his dream. |

A local girl's basketball player who dominates in games against boys and has dreams of law school and nonprofit work. The No. 1 public university in the country with a high-achieving athletics program. The two seem destined to be a perfect match, but when Alexis Gray-Lawson received her first recruiting letter from the Golden Bears at age 12, a future at the University of California was not a given. |

While some students say they've always wanted to attend to the University of California,
Golden Bear student-athlete Kyson Bunthuwong has proof. All he has to do is point to a fifth-grade essay assignment that required him to write about his future plans. Bunthuwong's reasoning was that Cal was the "it" place to be and that the Bear was the best mascot. |
