Cal-WSU Postgame Notes

  • Tonight's win marks Cal's second win over a top-10 team since 1978. The last time the Bears beat a top-10 team was USC in 2003.
  • The three points allowed are the fewest since holding UC Davis to three points in 2010. It also marks the third time this season that Cal has shut out a team in a half (Weber State, Ole Miss). The last time Cal held a Pac-12 opponent to three points or less was against Washington State (3) in 2008.
  • Cal won the turnover margin, 7-0. The Bears are 4-0 when winning the turnover battle. The last time the Bears garnered five interceptions in a game was vs. Washington in 2006.
  • The Bears sacked Luke Falk nine times, the most since collecting nine sacks against Stanford in 2005.
  • Washington State entered tonight's game averaging 39.7 points per game, and the Cougar offense was averaging 474.7 yards per game. Cal held the Cougars to three points and 337 yards of total offense.

  • Cal has returned fumbles for touchdowns in back-to-back games, as Gerran Brown returned a fumble by Falk on his ninth sack of the game for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Darius Allensworth returned one at Washington last week.
  • Camryn Bynum caught his first two career interceptions tonight.
  • Jaylinn Hawkins forced his first career fumble that was recovered by Devante Downs, the third of his career. Downs has now been a part of six Cal turnovers this season.
  • Ray Davison caught his second career interception, the first of this season. He returned his first career interception for a touchdown at Oregon State last season.
