Former Bears Head To U-23 WNT Camp
BERKELEY --- A pair of former California women's soccer standouts have been invited to the first camp of 2017 for the United States Under-23 Women's National Team when it begins on Friday.
Ifeoma Onumonu and Samantha Witteman will be part of the 30-player camp that will train from January 6-13 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson.
Onumonu (2012-16) ended her Golden Bear career in Cal's top five all-time for points (83; fourth) and goals (33; fifth). She earned trios of NSCAA All-Region, All-Pac-12 & Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honors during her tenure, including first team NSCAA and All-Pac-12 nods in 2012 and 2016. Onumonu was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-Freshman team in 2012, while her debut performance earned her a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2013.
Witteman (2012-15) is currently a member of the NWSL's Orlando Pride and completed her first season in the league after being selected tenth overall in the 2016 Draft. The defender picked up First Team All-Pac-12 honors and an NSCAA All-American award in 2015 and led the Bears in assists in 2014 with nine.
The duo join others Bears like Abigail Kim and Emily Boyd to earn camp invites for teams within the U.S. Soccer system.
