BERKELEY – Head coach Sonny Dykes announced Thursday that Art Kaufman will not return as Cal's defensive coordinator in 2017 after three campaigns in the role.

"We thank Art for the progress he was able to help our program make, but we have decided that we need to go in a different direction and find new leadership at defensive coordinator," Dykes said. "We wish him the best in his future coaching endeavors."

"I thank Sonny Dykes for the opportunity to serve as the defensive coordinator at Cal for the past three seasons," Kaufman said. "It was an honor and a pleasure."

Kaufman has spent 35 seasons as a collegiate coach including 18 campaigns as a defensive coordinator.
