Ivan Rabb Tabbed AP Preseason All-American

BERKELEY – California sophomore forward Ivan Rabb has been voted an Associated Press Preseason All-American, joining Duke's Grayson Allen, Villanova's Josh Hart, Iowa State's Monté Morris and Oregon's Dillon Brooks on the squad.

Rabb's 57 votes are the second-most on the team this year, and the third-most by any player named a preseason All-American in the last three seasons. Allen was the top vote-getter with 61 total votes. In 2014-15, Marcus Paige earned 58 votes.

An Oakland, Calif. product, Rabb is the second Golden Bear to earn preseason All-America honors since the poll began in 1986-87. Jason Kidd earned the honor in 1993-94. Rabb and Brooks are the first Pac-12 student-athletes to earn AP preseason honors since UCLA's Darren Collison in 2008-09.

Rabb is also the only underclassman to earn this year's distinction, and is the third underclassman selected to the five-member squad in the last three seasons. Jahlil Okafor and Ben Simmons earned preseason All-America nods as freshmen in 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively, and each was a top three selection in the NBA Draft following his rookie season.

In addition to being named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year watch list last month, Rabb earned second-team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Freshman laurels after a record-breaking rookie season that saw him set the school freshman record with 291 rebounds on the year. The Oakland, Calif. native ranked second in the conference and led the Golden Bears in field goal percentage (61.5 percent), rebounding (8.6 rebounds per game) and blocks (42). Rabb started all 34 contests, turning in 27 double-figure games.

Fans can get their first look at Rabb and the new-look Golden Bears on Thursday when they host Cal Baptist in Haas Pavilion at 7 p.m. Cal opens the regular season against South Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
