BERKELEY - Andre Goransson continued a busy few weeks when he won in the $25,000 Berkeley Futures singles semifinals to reach Sunday's final and then teamed up with Sem Verbeek to play in the doubles final on Saturday on court one at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The California senior and the former Pacific Tiger wound up losing to the top-seeded pair of Connor Smith and Rhyne Williams in the final, 6-4, 6-3.

Earlier on court one at Hellman, Goransson defeated the sixth-seeded and 469th-ranked Lucas Gomez, 6-1, 6-0, to qualify for the singles final. His Sunday opponent, Marcos Giron - who's ranked 637th in the world – upset the top-seeded and 234th-ranked Ruben Bemelmans, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the second semifinal to earn his spot in the final.

On Oct. 17, Goransson ended his previous tournament by capturing the singles title of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships presented by Oracle – also at Hellman – and he began play in the singles main draw of the futures the next day. Over the last 17 days – including the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma – he's played in 15 singles matches and 11 doubles matches.

"It's been a lot of fun," Goransson said. "It's been a lot of matches, but it's been so much fun. Since regionals started I've lifted up my game. I've enjoyed every moment on the court."

Sunday's singles final - the last match of the $25,000 Berkeley Futures USTA Pro Circuit tournament - is set for 10 a.m. at Hellman.
