Cal Ends Weekend At Capital Cross Challenge

SACRAMENTO --- The California cross country teams completed their weekend of competition Saturday morning after running in the Sacramento State Capital Cross Challenge.

The Golden Bear men recorded their second-best team finish of the young season, placing third overall among a field of 16 programs in their 8K race. Cal posted a team total time of 2:02.5, with four of the fifth top runners finishing in the top 25 individually.

Redshirt sophomore Steve Correa ran the fastest time for the Bears in the event, logging a mark of 24:25.7 to finish in 16th place. Sophomore Takeshi Okada and Max Leach were not far behind Correa: Okada ended up in 17th place (24:27.2) and Leach finished in 19th (24:29.6). Junior John Hogan was the final Cal runner in the top 25, placing 21st with a time of 24:32.1.

In the women's 6K run, Cal finished in 12th place out of 19 teams, with freshman Marissa Dobry pacing the group with her first-ever top 20 outing, running a 15th place time of 21:13.5. The Bears' next best finisher was redshirt freshman Natalie Herberg, who recorded a time of 21.32.0 to finish 35th.
