Cal Opens Home Slate vs. Oregon State Thursday

The California women's swimming team makes its 2014-15 home debut when the Golden Bears host Oregon State Thursday. The meet will get underway at 12 noon at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Cal's 23-woman roster features five newcomers who will be who will be suiting up for competition in Berkeley for the first time in freshmen Catherine Ladd, Jasmine Mau, Maija Roses, Cierra Runge and Noemie Thomas. Each of the new faces has swum in the Bears' first two competitions of the year at the Queen of the Pool in San Luis Obispo and at the All Florida Invitational. To date, Runge leads the Bears in both the 500 free (4:50.38) and 1650 free (16:40.89), while Thomas tops the team in the 100 butterfly with an NCAA B standard of 53.59 and Mau is second in the 200 fly (2:00.92).

Thursday's events will be swimming only with no diving. In addition to Oregon State, Cal has two other home meets this year - vs. Texas Oct. 31 and vs. Wisconsin Nov. 7.

Bears Challenged at All Florida Invitational
Cal last got in the water for a meet Oct. 3-5 when the Bears traveled to Gainesville for the All Florida Invitational. The prelims-finals format presented Cal with three days of tough racing, giving head coach Teri McKeever deeper insight into the possibilities for her 2014-15 squad.

Overall, five individuals claimed seven races with NCAA B standard times, including double-winners Celina Li (200 IM, 1:58.81; 200 fly, 1:58.38) and Missy Franklin (200 free, 1:46.37; 100 back, 54.05). Others to come out on top were Kelly Naze (400 IM, 4:17.80), Elizabeth Pelton (200 back, 1:54.23) and Marina Garcia (200 breast, 2:15.88). In addition, the 800 free relay of Caroline Piehl, Catherine Breed, Cierra Runge and Camille Cheng took first in 7:20.65.

Autograph Session
The Golden Bears will sign autographs for fans after both meets this weekend following the team's warm-down. Cal autograph placards will be available at the main entrance to Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Bears on Pac-12 Networks
All five of Cal's Pac-12 dual meets, as well as the Pac-12 Championships, will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Check Pac-12.com or CalBears.com for exact broadcast times as some events may be shown live, with others on a delayed-basis. Exact schedules will be determined at a later date.
