BERKELEY -Â Winners of three of its last four, California (6-8, 0-1) returns to Underhill Field for two big America East Conference games, hosting UC Davis first on Friday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m., followed by the second meeting with No. 16 Â Stanford this season on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m. The UC Davis game will be the annual Pack The Stands game, while the contest vs. the Cardinal will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks. Â
Â
Cal is on a stretch of facing ranked opponents every week in 2019 with the ninth ranked foe coming up next Tuesday against Stanford. After coming close against the first seven ranked foes, the Golden Bears finally beat a ranked team with a 3-1 win over No. 24 Cornell last Sunday. Â
Bears Get The Big Win Over A Ranked Foe
• Cal has won three of its last four games, but highlighting that stretch was a 3-1 victory over then-No. 24 Cornell. Cal's first win over a ranked opponent in eight tries this season, despite playing the other ranked teams very tough and almost winning many of those games. The win marked Cal's first win over a ranked team since 2017.
Lindsay Mathison,
Maddie Cleat and
Megan Rodgers each scored for the Bears, while
Katrina Carter,
Femke Delissen,
Brynn Zorilla and
Yvie Lock garnered assists.
Bears All-Time Vs. UC Davis and Stanford
• Cal is 24-5-1 all-time vs. UC Davis, and the Bears are currently enjoying a four-game winning streak over the Aggies. The Bears are 53-56-5 all-time vs. Stanford, and the Cardinal have won the last three meetings. The last time Cal beat Stanford was on Oct. 15, 2017, a 4-2 win over the 14th-ranked Cardinal.      Â
Rodgers And Carter Lead Offense
•
Megan Rodgers and
Katrina Carter have been leading the charge for the Bears on offense. They each picked up a point in Cal's over No. 24 Cornell, and prior to that, in the Bears' 6-0 shutout win over Sacred Heart, Rodgers scored twice and picked up an assist, while Carter also tallied two goals. Rodgers paces Cal in goals with nine, while Carter is right behind her with eight. Rodgers also paces her squad in points (22) and Carter is second, as well, with 18. In the Cal record book, Rodgers currently ranks fourth in career goals (39) and sixth in career points (82). Also in the Cal record book,
Femke Delissen sits 10th in career assists (20).Â
Cal's Scoring Margin Soars
• A key reason why Cal has won three of its last four games has been the large disparity in the scoring margin. The Bears have outscored their last four opponents, 19-5, including an 8-1 win over Central Michigan and a 6-0 shutout victory over Sacred Heart. The shutout win was Cal's first in 2019 after recording three last season.
Senior Night/Pack The Stands
• With it being homecoming weekend on campus, Friday's game will also be Cal's annual Pack The Stands game where all former players are invited to come for a homecoming reunion, as well as families of all the current players. There will be a taco truck for food, as well. Prior to the start of the game, there will be a pregame ceremony for Cal's seven seniors -
Katrina Carter,
Femke Delissen,
Fionna Jensen,
Gabi Jimenez,
Kyra Kent,
Lindsay Mathison and
Danielle Mentink.Â
Competitive Schedule
•  When Cal meets No. 16 Stanford next Tuesday, it will be its ninth ranked foe out of 16 games this year, based off the NFHCA's current Top-25 poll. Three of those games against ranked teams will take place in Berkeley, starting with a 2-1 loss to No. 7 Michigan on Sept. 8 and a 4-3 double overtime loss against No. 14 Syracuse with the second meeting against the Cardinal coming up.Â
Godfrid Headed To Cal Hall Of Fame
• Valentina Godfrid (2003-06), a first-team All-American who is the program's all-time leading scorer, has been elected into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame, part of the 34th class of inductees that will be enshrined the weekend of Nov. 8-9. Bears Tabbed Second In AE West
• America East coaches predicted a second-place finish in the West Division for the Bears, according to the league's preseason poll. It marked the Golden Bears' best standing in the preseason poll in four years. The Cardinal sits atop the West Division with four points and two first-place votes, followed by the Bears in second with three points and one first-place vote. UC Davis rounds out the division in third. In 2018, Cal finished 2-4 in conference play with both wins coming against the Aggies.
