Haas Pavilion Seating Policy for Patrons with Disabilities Intercollegiate Athletic Events Purpose and General Policy The purpose of this policy is to assure, whenever possible, that patrons with disabilities who need: 1) wheelchair accessible spaces, 2) aisle seats with removable armrests, designed for easy transfer into seats, or 3) semi-ambulant seats with additional legroom, will have the same choice of admissions prices and quality of locations that is otherwise available to the general public purchasing tickets at that time. Further, whenever possible, patrons with disabilities will be seated adjacent to companions in a fashion similar to seating available to the general public purchasing tickets at that time. In fairness to the greatest number of patrons requiring wheelchair accessible seating, guaranteed companion tickets in those areas will be limited to one companion for each wheelchair user. If, due to ticket sales volume, disability accessible seating as described above has been sold out at a particular price type location, but that price type location is not otherwise sold out to the general public, patrons with disabilities will be offered disability seating at other price level locations subject to availability. In such circumstances, patrons with disabilities will receive tickets at pricing not greater than the originally asked for price, and for higher priced locations if available at the time of purchase. Cal Athletics is committed to working with patrons on a case by case basis to adequately accommodate individual needs. Provision for Sale of Accessible Seating Areas This policy provides that designated accessible seating areas and companion seats will not be made available to patrons who do not request accessible seating until all non-accessible seating is sold out or, for events for which tickets can be sold in advance (e.g. Intercollegiate Men's Basketball games), until 5:00 PM the day before the event, whichever is sooner. Seating locations providing these amenities are located throughout the facility and are known to ticket sellers, who will accommodate all requests from patrons needing such seat locations. Events at Haas Pavilion The following athletic events are held at the Haas Pavilion: men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. Ticket price locations for these events and purchase options for patrons with disabilities are described below. Men's Basketball (listed in order by highest price and quality of seating) Floor Seats - one row of seats adjacent to the playing surface in front of sections 15, 16 and 17. Purchase of these locations requires qualifying donations to the Athletic Department's Bear Backers program. This area is limited to season ticket sales. Most floor seat ticket holders who need wheelchair seating would probably choose the wheelchair seating areas on a platform located immediately behind the designated Floor Seats. However, floor seat ticket holders who need wheelchair and companion seating can choose any wheelchair and companion seating area that is not already reserved for another wheelchair user and companion. Chairback Seats are located in sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 and 28. Chairback seats in these sections range from closest to the floor to the mid-level of the arena. Purchase of these locations requires qualifying donations to the Athletic Department's Bear Backers program. This area is limited to season ticket sales. Chairback Seat ticket holders who need wheelchair and companion seating can choose any wheelchair seating and companion area that is not already reserved for another wheelchair user and companion. Premium Bench Seats are padded bench seats located above the Chairback Seats in sections 1,2,3,15,16 and the lower rows of sections 4, 8, 9, 10, 14, 18, 24 and 28. Purchase of these locations requires qualifying donations to the Athletic Department's Bear Backers program. These locations are sold as season ticket packages. Premium bench seat ticket holders who need wheelchair and companion seating can choose any wheelchair seating area that is not already reserved for another wheelchair user and companion. Reserved Seats are all remaining bleacher seats in sections 1-28, excluding the areas described above and the Student Section. Seats are sold both as season tickets and on an individual event basis. Season ticket holders generally have the preferred locations, and are assigned their seats according to a point system based on donations and other factors. The wheelchair seating available to Reserved Seat ticket holders varies. The variation is influenced by, among other factors, the principle articulated earlier that patrons with disabilities will have the same quality of locations that is simultaneously available to patrons who do not need accessible seating. Depending on their eligibility for preferred locations, some Reserved Seat ticket holders who need wheelchair and companion seating can choose any wheelchair seating and companion area that is not already reserved for (a) another wheelchair user and companion or (b) other patrons who purchased tickets after seating for non-wheelchair users is sold out. Other Reserved Seat ticket holders may be further limited to the wheelchair seating areas in the mid-level bench area adjacent to sections 4, 8, 10, 14, 18, 22, 24 and 28, and in the upper level behind sections 7, 8, and 9. The Student Section is comprised of seats in front of sections 16 and 17 (limited to "The Bench"); the whole of sections 21 and 23; and section 22, rows 17 and above. Students must purchase unreserved student season tickets and enter through a student entrance. Students who comprise "The Bench" identify themselves by wearing a special shirt. "Bench" Students needing wheelchair-accessible seats may use the Floor Seat area, including the five north-side floor seats if the platform seating areas are not available. This may occur if the platform area is filled with one or both of (1) wheelchair users and their companions and (2) others to whom the space was sold after all seating for non-wheelchair users was already sold out. All other students requiring a wheelchair accessible location use the mid-bench area in sections 18 and 22. Women's Basketball Reserved Seats are available in the lower portion of sections 28, 1, 2, 3, and 4. Reserved seats are sold only as season ticket packages. Reserved seat ticket holders who need wheelchair seating can choose any wheelchair seating area that is not already reserved for another wheelchair user and companion. Seat selection can be on a game-by-game or whole-season basis, whichever the patron prefers. General Admission is comprised of all remaining seats in the Pavilion. General admission ticket holders who need wheelchair seating can, on an event-by-event basis, choose any wheelchair seating area that is not already reserved for another wheelchair user and companion. Women's Volleyball General Admission only is sold for these events. No advance sales. For these events, patrons who need wheelchair seating can choose any wheelchair seating area on a "first come, first served" basis. Women's and Men's Gymnastics These events are free and open to the public, and there are no reserved seats. Patrons who need wheelchair seating can choose any wheelchair seating area on a "first come, first served" basis. Information Distribution Information regarding accessible seating is to be available by telephone, on the Internet, and in person. Printed materials such as ticket applications and brochures are to contain information regarding accessible seating. Staff Training All Athletic Ticket Office full-time and part-time staff are to be trained concerning this policy. IARS Event Management part-time day-of-event staff are to be trained about customer service, emergency egress, and assistance for persons with disabilities annually, before commencement of the basketball season.
