BERKELEY, CALIF. - Serela Kay, a former standout collegiate women's water polo player, and assistant coach for USA Water Polo's Future's National Team, has been hired as an assistant women's water polo coach at the University of California, it was announced today by Golden Bear head coach Rich Corso.

Kay, 27, comes to Berkeley with 17 years of water polo experience, both as a player and a coach. With the USWP Future's National Team, she is responsible for implementing the selection process that whittles 150 athletes down to a 40-member team in preparation for international competition, and ultimately the development of future Senior National Team players.

Prior to working with USA Water Polo, Kay was the director and senior head coach of the Santa Barbara Water Polo Foundation from September 2004-August 2005. She was also an assistant men's and women's water polo coach at Princeton from July 2002 through August 2004, and was named USA Water Polo Women's Elite Northeast Zone Coach of the Year in 2003.

As an athlete, Kay was a four-year starter and team captain as a senior, leading UCLA to National Collegiate titles in 1997, 1998 and 2000. She was a member of the USA Junior National Team from 1995-97 as well, helping Team USA to a gold medal at the 1996 Junior Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba.

Kay graduated from UCLA in 2000 with a degree in psychology, with a specialization in business and administration. She received a Master of Sport Science in Sport Management degree from the United States Sports Academy in 2004.
