WOODLAND, CALIF. - The University of California women's water polo team had five players recognized by The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as members of the 2006 All-Academic Team.

Senior Holly Farlin (3.38 political science), junior Elsie Windes (3.02 interdisciplinary studies) and sophomores Katya Eadington (3.06 undeclared), Molly Hayes (3.11 undeclared) and Rebecca Dreyfuss (3.21 social welfare) were all noted by the MPSF for their academic achievements. To be eligible for MPSF All-Academic accolades, an athlete must have a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, must be at least a sophomore academically, and must have competed in fifty percent or more of a team's matches.

Besides her MPSF All-Academic recognition, Windes was selected as a second-team All-American and was a first-team All-MPSF pick this season.

The 2006 Cal women's water polo squad, in its first year under former Olympic men's water polo coach Richard Corso, finished 18-9 overall and a school-record 9-3 in the MPSF. The Bears were also an impressive 8-1 at home, losing only to No. 1-ranked USC, 7-5. Cal was fifth in the MPSF Tournament, defeating Pacific (21-4) in the opening round, falling to Hawaii (10-8) in the quarterfinals, defeating San Diego State (7-5) in the semifinals and topping Arizona State (7-6) for fifth place.
