WOODLAND, Calif. - Thirteen California women's water polo student-athletes earned recognition for their academic performances as members of the 2008 All-MPSF Academic team, as announced today by conference executive director Al Beaird. Cal's 13 selections on the academic recognition squad were the most by any MPSF member.

"It's what Cal is all about," Cal head coach Richard Corso said. "It's not only about playing great polo, having great student-athletes in your program is essential. Our program has changed significantly in the past couple of seasons."

Seniors Katya Eadington (history), Molly Hayes (political science) and Heather Stuart (integrative biology); juniors Melissa Wheeler (rhetoric), Paige Lorenz (American studies); redshirt sophomores Darby Anderson (Spanish), Julie Oreglia (political science), Remy Champion (undeclared), Stephanie Schnugg (art); sophomores Camille Hewko (history of art), Erin Scully (mass communications), Grace Reynolds (undeclared); and redshirt freshman Kirsten Auker (undeclared) were all honored by the MPSF. To be eligible for MPSF All-Academic accolades, an athlete must have a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, must be at least a sophomore academically, and must have competed in fifty percent or more of a team's matches.

The 2008 Cal women's water polo squad, in its third year under former Olympic men's water polo coach Richard Corso, finished 18-11 overall and 6-6 in the MPSF.
