WOODLAND, CALIF. - California junior Elsie Windes has been selected to the 2006 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first-team, while senior Katie Card was honorable mention All-MPSF and freshman Stephanie Schnugg was picked as a member of the MPSF All-Freshman Team, it was announced Wednesday by Al Beaird, executive director of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The all-tournament squads were picked by the league's head coaches following the MPSF Tournament, held Apr. 27-30, at UC Irvine.

Windes, a standout from Portland, Ore., was the Golden Bears' leading scorer with 40 goals this season, including four goals in the MPSF Tournament and two goals in Cal's 7-6 victory over Arizona State in the tournament's fifth-place match. She has now tallied 125 goals in three years. Windes was an All-American as a freshman and sophomore as well (2006 All-Americans will be selected at a later date).

Card, from Santa Ana, Calif., and one of six seniors on the Bears 2006 squad, tallied 19 goals on the season and notched four goals during the MPSF Tournament. She concluded her college career with 55 goals. Schnugg, the daughter of former Cal men's water polo star Peter Schnugg (1973 NCAA Player of the Year), is from Alamo and finished with 15 goals.

The 2006 Cal women's water polo squad, in its first season under head coach Richard Corso, finished 18-9 overall and a school-record 9-3 in MPSF play. The Bears were also an impressive 8-1 at home, losing only to No. 1-ranked USC, 7-5, at Spieker Aquatics Complex. Cal was fifth in the MPSF Tournament, defeating Pacific (21-4) in the opening round, falling to Hawaii (10-8) in the quarterfinals, defeating San Diego State (7-5) in the semifinals and topping Arizona State (7-6) for fifth place.
