BERKELEY- With two goals in each of the first two quarters, Cal held the lead at half time, 4-2. However, the Anteaters fought back, scoring three in a row in the third to tie the game at fives. This effort was not enough to fend off the Bears' offense which took back the lead with three more goals to the Anteaters' one for a final score of 8-6 and a victory for Cal.
The Bears' Breda Vosters and Ashley Young led the team's offense with three goals apiece. Sophomores Kelly Mendoza and Kirstn Mase also added goals for the Bears. Cal's goalkeeper Lindsay Dorst tallied four saves in the game. Cal answered back a minute later with a long toss into the upper right corner of the net from Junior Breda Vosters. With 3:33 left in the first quarter, Kirstn Mase notched another goal for the Bears that bounced into the net for the Bears' first lead of the game. However, UCI's Annika Bergesen's shot off the cross bar made its way in the goal to tie the game, 2-2 at the end of the first.
The golden Bears dominated the second quarter with their offensive aggressiveness as well as their strong defense. Cal gained a second goal from Vosters with 5:52 remaining in the half and another from Kelly Mendoza with three minutes to go. The Bears scored the final goal of the quarter with 1:20 on the clock, when Young fired a shot into the top left corner of the net to take back the lead, 6-5.

With just 1:21 left in the match, Breda Vosters fired in a long bounce shot just as the buzzer sounded and time on the shot clock expired for a score of 8-6.
