IRVINE, CALIF. - Junior All-Americans Dana Ochsner and Breda Vosters paced No. 4 Cal with two goals apiece as the Golden Bears defeated UC Santa Barbara, 7-3, Saturday (Feb. 25) morning in the first round of the UCI Invitational at Corona del Mar. The Golden Bears, 13-2 overall, will next play the winner of UC Davis and Arizona State at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Corona del Mar.Vosters, the Bears' leading scorer with 27 goals in 13 matches, was a third-team All-American, while Ochsner notched second-team All-America honors. Other scorers for Cal included sophomore Ashley Young, senior Elizabeth McLaren and junior Remington Price with single goals. Junior goalie Lindsay Dorst played the first half and registered six saves. Freshman Savanna Smith played the final two quarters and tallied four saves. The Bears had a slim 3-2 lead after the first period, but then outscored the Gauchos, 4-1, the rest of the way for the 7-3 victory. Cal had defeated UCSB, 11-7, back on Jan. 22 at the Spartan Invitational in San Jose Earlier this season the Bears defeated UC Davis, 13-5, Jan. 21 at the Spartan Invite.
