Junior Breda Vosters scored three goals and senior Elizabeth McLaren added two goals, but the No. 2-ranked Cal women's water polo team still fell to No. 3 USC, 10-5, Sunday (Feb. 5) in the third-place match of the Stanford Invitational. Junior goalie Lindsay Dorst recorded seven saves.

The Golden Bears finished the Stanford Invite, 2-2, and saw their overall record drop to 11-2. On Saturday, Cal defeated Michigan, 9-7, and lost to No. 4 UCLA, 4-3. The Bears won their Sunday morning match, 8-4, over No. 10 Hawaii. It was the second year in a row Cal has finished 2-2 at the Stanford Invited.

The Trojans held a slim 2-1 advantage after the first period, but USC outscored the Bears 4-1 in the second quarter to take control of the match.

Vosters finished the tournament with a team high nine goals and leads Cal in scoring this season with 22 goals in 11 matches. She was the Bears' leading scorer last year with 63 goals in 31 matches. Dorst notched 30 saves in the four Stanford Invitational contests.

In the morning win over Hawaii, the Bears were led by sophomore Ashley Young's match-high four goals. Besides Young's impressive offensive output, Vosters added two goals and sophomore Kelly Mendoza and freshman Victoria Williams each scored for Cal. Dorst finished with eight saves. The Bears had earlier defeated the Wahines, 8-5, Thursday at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

The Bears next return to MPSF league action hosting San Jose State on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
