BERKELEY - Ashley Young and Breda Vosters scored three goals each and goalie Savanna Smith made 16 saves as the No. 4 Cal women's water polo team beat No. 10 Michigan on Saturday evening at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Hawaii transfer Kelly McKee scored her first two goals as a member of the Golden Bears, as Cal scored the first four goals of the third quarter to break open a close match.
After Vosters put Cal on the board at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter, Michigan (1-4) score a pair of unanswered goals to take the lead. But Schroeder tied it up with a goal and then Young scored twice during a 42-second span late in the first quarter to give the Bears a 4-2 advantage.
Goals by Ochsner and McKee to start the second quarter made it 6-2, and Cal led 7-3 at halftime. But Vosters scored two more times and Hale and McKee found the back of the net as well to push the Bears' lead to 11-3 with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter.
