The California women's water polo program added U.S. national team player and former NCAA champion Peter Hudnut to its staff in December 2006 as a volunteer assistant coach. A member of two national championship teams at Stanford (2001 and 2002), Hudnut was a part-time coach at Harvard-Westlake School, his Southern California-based alma mater, in 2003-06.

Hudnut, who was a three-time All-American and made three appearances on the NCAA all-tournament team (1999, 2001 and 2002), is currently training with the USA National Team for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He played professionally for S.S. Lazio Nuoto in Rome as part of the A-1 Italian League in 2004-06 and was an alternate for the United States' 2004 Olympic team.

Hudnut was also a three-time All-MPSF selection at Stanford (2000, 2001 and 2002) and a three-time high school All-American at Harvard-Westlake (1996, 1997 and 1998).
