The California volleyball team received the No. 6 ranking in the final Bison/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll today, after completing the 2008 season with the best record in school history at 26-7 (.788). The Golden Bears also recorded a program-best 13 victories in conference play and finished third in the Pac-10 (13-5).

Cal advanced to the NCAA regional final for the second consecutive year where they fell to eventual NCAA champion, top-seeded Penn State in the University Park region. The Bears set school records with new marks for winning streaks by claiming 29 consecutive sets without a loss and winning 16 straight home matches.
