HEAD COACH RICH FELLER: Rich Feller (23-27 at Cal, career 322-194, .624) is in his second season as the head coach of Cal's women's volleyball program. Feller took over the Bears coaching reins when he was hired in December 1998. He comes to Cal after a stint as an assistant coach on the USA National Team and 14 successful years as head coach at Colorado State (1983-96) where he led the Rams to eight NCAA Tournament appearances and 12 Top 25 national rankings. Feller earned his 300th career victory when the Bears defeated Denver, 3-1, Sept. 4, 1999.

BEAR NOTES: The Cal women's volleyball team, 10-12 overall and 5-10 in the Pac-10, has a big week ahead of it as the Bears travel to Santa Clara, Nov. 7 (6-0 at home this season) and hosts Bay Area rival Stanford Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Recreational Sports Facility Fieldhouse. With six matches left, Cal is in dire need of a winning streak in order to have any chance at NCAA postseason play. The Bears broke a five-match losing steak with a 3-0 victory (16-14, 16-14, 15-7) over host Washington Nov. 3. Before the victory over the Huskies, Cal had not won a game in a match since defeating non-league opponent William & Mary, 3-1, on Oct. 13. Cal had lost five straight matches and six straight Pac-10 matches, as well as losing 18 straight games in those six Pac-10 matches until defeating Washington. Against the Huskies, the Bears were paced by senior outside hitter Alicia Perry, who had a team-high 18 kills and 13 digs. Other key performers were freshman middle blocker Heather Diers with a .462 hitting percentage (eight kills, two errors, 13 attempts) and seven total blocks (two block solos, five block assists) and freshman defensive specialist Jenna Grigsby with 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Leah Young also played well with seven kills and only one error in 14 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage. Cal had an impressive comeback to win game one, 16-14. The Bears were down 10-2 at one point when they slowly got back into the game. With Washington up 14-6 and being at game point, the Bears rattled off seven straight points to get within 14-13. The Huskies then had another chance at game point, but the Bears got a side out and then won when Washington hit long three straight times. In game two, Cal again came from behind to win 16-14. The Huskies held a 11-5 lead before the Bears came back to put the game away, 16-14, on two errant hits by Washington. Senior captain Perry, the Oct. 9 Pac-10 Player of the Week, is only the fourth player in school history to record over 1000 career kills (1268, fourth on the Cal all-time list) and 1000 career digs (1056, eighth on the Cal all-time list). Perry has led Cal in both kills and digs in 12 of the team's 22 matches this season. Among active Pac-10 players, she is second in career digs and third in career kills. Perry is also first in the conference in digs per game (4.08) and third in kills per game (4.72).

CAL VS. THE OPPONENTS: Cal has a 24-5 all-time record against No. 16 ranked Santa Clara (21-3, last defeated San Francisco, 3-1, Nov. 3 at Santa Clara). Last season, the Bears defeated the Broncos, 3-0, Sept. 28 in Berkeley. Santa Clara is led by 5-11 senior outside hitter Ynez Carrasco (385 kills, 321 digs). The Bears have a 4-47 all-time record against Stanford (14-11, 7-8, defeated Washington, 3-2, Nov. 2 in Seattle, lost to WSU, 3-1, Nov. 3 in Pullman), losing to the Cardinal earlier this season, 3-0, Oct. 10 at Stanford. The last time the Bears defeated the Cardinal was, 3-1, Oct. 1, 1982 during the Cal Dolfin Invitational in Berkeley. Stanford is led by 6-1 sophomore Logan Tom (175 kills, .304 hitting percentage in 32 games).

REENA PARDIWALA: Leads the Bear starters with a .293 hitting percentage (175 kills, 65 errors, 375 attempts) and is second with 18 service aces...also has 155 digs and a team-high 11 block solos and 78 total blocks...against the Washington schools Oct. 6-7 had 20 kills, only two errors in 35 attempts (.514)...had a career-high nine total blocks Oct. 7 versus WSU...had a career-high .625 hitting percentage (11 kills, one error, 16 attempts) Sept. 30 at Arizona...had a career-high 17 kills and 16 digs Sept. 15 at Oregon...had a career-high four service aces Sept. 8 versus McNeese State.
