HEAD COACH RICH FELLER: Rich Feller (22-26 at Cal, career 321-193, .625) is in his second season as the head coach of Cal's women's volleyball program. Feller took over the Bears coaching reins when he was hired in December 1998. He comes to Cal after a stint as an assistant coach on the USA National Team and 14 successful years as head coach at Colorado State (1983-96) where he led the Rams to eight NCAA Tournament appearances and 12 Top 25 national rankings. Feller earned his 300th career victory when the Bears defeated Denver, 3-1, Sept. 4, 1999.
BEAR NOTES: The Cal women's volleyball team, 9-11 overall and 4-9 in the Pac-10, will be attempting to break a four-match losing streak as the Bears travel to Washington to face Washington State, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Pullman and Washington, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in Seattle. Cal will also be attempting to sweep the Washington schools for the first time since the 1989 season as the Bears earlier defeated Washington, 3-1, and Washington State, 3-0, Oct. 6-7 at the RSF Fieldhouse. Cal has not defeated WSU in Pullman since the 1989 season. The Bears last Pac-10 victory was the Oct. 7 win over the Cougars. Senior captain Alicia Perry, the Oct. 9 Pac-10 Player of the Week, continues her assault on the Cal record books. Perry is only the fourth player in school history to record over 1000 career kills and 1000 career digs. She has 1240 career kills, which is fourth on the Bears career kill list, 3451 kill attempts, which is fourth on the Bears career kill attempt list, and 1033 digs, which is eighth on the Bears career kill list. Perry has led Cal in both kills and digs in 11 of the team's 20 matches this season. Among active Pac-10 players, she is first in career digs and third in career kills. Perry is also first in the conference in digs per game (4.10) and third in kills per game (4.72). Against the Huskies earlier this season, the Bears were led by a career-high 29 kills by freshman Gabrielle Abernathy, while Perry tallied a career-high 30 digs and sophomore setter Caity Noonan had a career-high 54 assists. Perry was the Oct. 9 Pac-10 Player of the Week after totaling 44 kills and 44 digs in the Washington and Washington State matches. Besides Perry leading the Pac-10 in digs per game (4.12) and being third in kills per game (4.68), other Bears ranked in the Pac-10 include junior setter Candace McNamee, eighth in assists per game (8.26), sophomore middle blocker Reena Pardiwala, ninth in blocks per game (1.06), and freshman defensive specialist Ashleigh Turner, ninth in service aces per game (0.32).
CAL VS. THE OPPONENTS: Cal has a 17-18 all-time record against Washington State (13-8, 4-8, defeated Washington, 3-1, Oct. 27 in Pullman), defeating the Cougars earlier this season, 3-0 Oct. 7 in Berkeley. Washington State is led by 5-7 sophomore outside hitter LaToya Harris (303 kills, 233 digs). The Bears have a 15-19 all-time record against Washington (6-14, 1-11, defeated by WSU, 3-1, Oct. 27 in Pullman), defeating the Huskies earlier this season, 3-1, Oct. 6 in Berkeley. Washington is led by 6-3 junior Lisa Underhill (217 kills, .308 hitting percentage).
