Feller took over the Bears coaching reins when he was hired in December 1998. He comes to Cal after a stint as an assistant coach on the USA National Team and 14 successful years as head coach at Colorado State (1983-96) where he led the Rams to eight NCAA Tournament appearances and 12 Top 25 national rankings. Feller earned his 300th career victory when the Bears defeated Denver, 3-1, Sept. 4, 1999.
BEAR NOTES: The Cal women's volleyball team, 9-9 overall and 4-7 in the Pac-10, is facing a crucial series this weekend as the Bears host No. 5 ranked Arizona, Friday Oct. 27 and Arizona State, Saturday Oct. 28 at the Recreational Sports Facility Fieldhouse. Cal figures it has to win at least five of its next 10 matches to finish .500 and have a shot at postseason play. The Bears have not competed in NCAA postseason play since 1989. Cal will be attempting to avenge an earlier 3-0 loss to a talented Arizona team Sept. 30 in Tucson, and to sweep Arizona State for the first time since 1992. Cal defeated the Sun Devils, 3-1, Sept. 29 in Tempe. The Bears are coming off what is arguably the toughest road trip in the country, losing at No. 4 ranked USC, 3-0, Oct. 19 and at No. 8 ranked UCLA, 3-0, Oct. 20. Senior captain Alicia Perry, the Oct. 9 Pac-10 Player of the Week, continues to lead the Bears and reached a milestone at UCLA. Perry had a team-high 13 digs against the Bruins and now has 1209 career kills and 1010 digs, establishing herself as only the fourth player in Cal history to have 1000 kills and 1000 digs. The Bears were also led by sophomore outside hitter Leah Young against the Bruins with a team-high 11 kills and a .391 hitting percentage (11 kills, only two errors, 23 attempt). Against USC, Cal was led by Perry's team-high 14 kills and a .353 hitting percentage (14 kills, only two errors, 34 attempts).
