Complete AVCA Poll

BERKELEY - The AVCA coaches voted the California volleyball team the No. 17 squad in the country, according to the preseason poll released Monday. This marks the 12th time in school history and the 10th outing in a row that the Golden Bears have been ranked to start the season.

In addition to this year marking the 10th successive season with a preseason ranking, it's also the 10th time the Bears have been ranked in the preseason since head coach Rich Feller took over the program in 1999. This year, Cal will play six of the 24 other teams ranked in the annual preseason poll and two of the teams receiving votes. The next AVCA Coaches' Poll will be released Aug. 27.

Though the Golden Bears lost a remarkable senior in All-American Tarah Murrey, Cal volleyball returns 10 letterwinners and five starters for what looks to be another banner season. Last year, the Bears went 26-7, owned the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking for four weeks and made a 15th trip to the NCAA Tournament. Set for his 14th year at the helm Feller adds four recruits - two of whom bring an international flair to Berkeley by way of Italy and Croatia - along with transfer setter Joan Caloiaro. The Bears boast a schedule that includes nine teams that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, six of which are Pac-12 teams including defending national champion UCLA. Volleyball fans will be treated to at least 14 of Cal's 30 matches on television in the inaugural year of the Pac-12 Networks.
