BERKELEY - All-American Tarah Murrey will take her talents across the pond to play with Giaveno Volley in Italy. The four-year letterwinner departs Aug. 20 for Italy and will be playing alongside fellow American and former Texas student-athlete Ashley Engle. "I am very excited to be a part of Giaveno Volley," Murrey said. "It's a great opportunity for me. I very much look forward to this next chapter of my life and level of volleyball." Murrey takes her place in a distinguished list of former Golden Bears to play professionally abroad. Recent graduates Carli Lloyd, Hana Cutura, Angie Pressey, Ellen Orchard, Amra Solomon and Mia Jerkov have all spent time overseas. Murrey capped off her senior campaign by earning AVCA Second-Team All-American honors as one of eight Pac-12 volleyball student-athletes named to the squad. Prior to receiving that accolade, Murrey made her second career appearance on the All-Pacific Region Team and was also named the Pac-12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This past season, Murrey paced the Bears in kills per set at 4.20 and points per set with an astonishing 4.71. Second in digs with 3.23 per set, Murrey also chipped in 0.50 blocks per set. Murrey departs Berkeley on multiple single-season lists for she is third in kills (617 in 2010), is second (1454 in 2010) and seventh (1355 in 2011) in attacks. In career totals, Murrey currently holds fifth in kills with 1714 and fourth in attacks at 4440.
