Bears Defeat Oregon

BERKELEY, Calif. -- The California women's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak and picked up its first Pac-10 win of the season Friday, defeating Oregon, 15-11, 15-8, 10-15, 15-13, at the RSF Fieldhouse. The Bears are now 6-5 on the season, 1-1 in the Pac-10, while Oregon falls to 7-6, 0-3.

The Bears rallied in game four of the match to post their first home victory of the season, bouncing back from a 9-1 deficit to win the game and match, 15-13. After Oregon ran out to the 9-1 advantage and looked to tie the match up, Cal roared back to score 12 unanswered points and take a 14-9 lead. Oregon came back with four points, but Cal's Michelle Wickman knocked down a kill for match point.

Wickman and Jessica Dinaberg led the Bears with 15 kills each, and Dinaberg added a game-high 20 digs. Sophomore Brook Coulter added 14 kills and 13 digs for the Bears, and junior Elena Berman chipped in 13 kills, 12 digs and five blocks.

The Bears are back in action Saturday, hosting the Oregon State Beavers at 8:00 p.m. in the RSF Fieldhouse.
