Arizona Aces its Way Past Cal

TUCSON, Ariz.--- No. 12 Arizona, the Pac-10's top serving team, posted 10 aces in a sweep of California, 15-7, 15-10, 15-2, here Friday night. Arizona improved to 17-4, 9-4 in the conference, while California fell to 7-16 and 2-12.

Senior Carolyn Penfield led the Cats with eight kills and eight digs, while senior middle blocker Stephanie Venne hit .565 (6-0-11). Penfield passed teammate Raelene Morton for the league lead in aces with three. The Cats out-hit the Bears, .293-.067 and out-blocked them 8-2, in sending Cal to its 11th loss in 12th match. Arizona equaled its team season-low total of nine attack errors.

Cal will try to get on the4 winning track when they play in Tempe, Ariz., against Arizona State tomorrow.
