Kathan enters her JUNIOR season with the Golden Bears as the incumbent starting defensive specialist/libero after posting impressive numbers as a sophomore.
2007
As a SOPHOMORE, Kathan led the team in total digs with 414, good for the ninth-best single-season total in Cal history... also led the team with 3.72 digs per game... posted a career-high 29 digs at USC on Oct. 26... reached double-digit digs in 21 of 33 matches played, including a streak of 17-straight from Oct. 5 through Dec. 7... registered a team-high 25 digs at UCLA Oct. 27 in Cal's historic win at Pauley Pavilion... notched a career-high five service aces against UNC-Wilmington on Sept. 1... finished the season with 29 service aces, third overall on the team... received Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention.
2006
As a FRESHMAN, Kathan established herself as one of the Bears' top defensive specialists, competing in 29 matches, earning 118 digs and 17 service aces... recorded four digs and a service ace against Stanford in the NCAA regional in Austin, Texas... had six digs in the NCAA second round at Cal Poly Dec. 2, and seven digs and a service ace vs. LSU in the NCAA first round Dec. 1... set a then-career-high 15 digs versus UCLA Nov. 10 and versus Washington Nov. 25... recorded at least two service aces in four different matches during the season - Sept. 1 versus Xavier, Sept. 14 at Pacific, Nov. 10 versus UCLA and Nov. 17 at Oregon.

Named Contra Costa Times Player of the Year, Cal-Hi Sports Player of the Year, Sports Focus Player of the Year, Diablo Foothill Athletic League MVP and a PrepVolleyball.com High School All-American as a senior at Campolindo High School... received DFAL MVP and the Cal-Hi Sports Player of the Year honors as a junior in 2004... member of the Golden Bear 18-Forefront club team that placed fifth in the nation in 2005 and helped her club team to a bronze medal at the 2003 Junior Olympics.

Kristen Josephine Kathan was born in Manchester, N.H.... parents are Tom and Josephine Kathan... has two younger brothers, Ryan (21) and Michael (16)... majoring in international field studies with an emphasis in European trade relations.
