Stanford's only losses of the year came against the same team, Penn State, at both the State Farm Classic Aug. 23 and the UConn Husky Invitational Sept. 6
CAL vs. STANFORD:
Stanford holds a 41-4 series advantage over Cal, although the Bears nearly upset the Cardinal in five games at Stanford last season. Cal was serving match point at 15-14 in game five, but an official's call "out" of an apparent Cal kill turned the tide and Stanford went on to win the game, 18-16, and match. Cal's last win over Stanford was Oct. 1, 1982 at Cal's Dolfin Invitational. Cal's only victory ever at Stanford was Nov. 15, 1979 in the season finale.
LAST MEETING:
Cal and Stanford played the opening match of the Pac-10 season at Cal's RSF Fieldhouse on Sept. 16, with Stanford winning 15-5, 15-6, 15-3. Elena Berman and Michelle Wickman led the Bears with seven kills each, while Stanford's Paula McNamee put down a game-high 12 kills and six blocks.
LAST WEEK:
The Bears lost their final two home matches of the season, falling to #12 Washington State in four games on Nov. 14, and to #16 Washington in three games on Nov. 15. Against the Cougars, four Bears recorded double figure kill totals - Jessica Dinaberg with 21 kills, Alicia Perry with 16, Brook Coulter with 15 and Kellie Alva with 11 kills. Dinaberg led the Bears with 14 kills against the Huskies.
DINABERG'S DOUBLE:
When senior hitter Jessica Dinaberg put down her 18th kill of the Illinois State Classic during the Tulsa match, she became just the third player in Cal history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. The other two Bears in the 1,000-1,000 club are Lisa Arce (1987-90) and Tiffany Rochelle (1986-89). Dinaberg now ranks fourth in all-time kills (1189), and third in kill attempts (3430) and digs (1218) at Cal.
SENIOR SALUTE:
Six Cal volleyball players will play their final matches as Golden Bears when they take the court at Stanford - hitters Jessica Dinaberg and Brooke Weaver, hitter/setter Michelle Wickman, defensive specialists Debbie Walery and Sara Waltman, and setter Carrie Musolff. Dinaberg and Wickman have been starters their entire four-year careers at Cal, and both have left their mark in many categories of the Cal record books. Weaver and Walery are also four-year letterwinners for the Bears, Waltman wraps a two-year career , and Musolff finishes her one season with the Bears, after transferring from Cuesta College.
HEAD COACH SUE WOODSTRA:
Sue Woodstra is in her third year at the helm of the Golden Bears, with a record of 29-53 at Cal. A two-time U.S. Olympic team member and one of nine Olympians to currently head a women's collegiate volleyball team, Woodstra has posted a 139-92 record in six seasons as a collegiate head coach, including four years at Pittsburgh.
