Hi everybody. My name is Am'ra Solomon and I'm a senior outside hitter for the California volleyball team. This year, the Golden Bears are loaded with talent and hungry for success after making it to the NCAA semifinal match last year. The team works real hard in the gym but we also know how to have a good time. This season, I'll be taking you on a behind-the-scenes look at the Bears on the road. Every time we're away on a road trip, check out the website on Monday when we get back for the latest installment of Adventures with Am'ra. I'm excited to be your host and camera-woman. So sit back, relax and enjoy the memories with us. Go Bears!
|Nov. 25-29, 2008 | The team celebrated Thanksgiving in the Pacific Northwest while on our trip to play Oregon and Oregon State. We started off in Corvallis, Ore. and beat the Beavers, 3-0. Then we went back to Eugene where we stayed at a hotel near a beautiful lake. We spent Thanksgiving day there and had a team dinner together before we watched a movie. We weren't able to get the win against the Ducks on Friday but all in all, for my final regular-season trip at Cal, we had some wonderful team-bonding moments that I wouldn't trade for the world. Check out the photos here. Oh, and happy belated Thanksgiving. Click here to see the GALLERY|
|Nov. 6-9, 2008 | We headed out to the desert in search of a couple of wins and some warm weather. Well, we got one win and were pretty disappointed to find colder weather than we had in the Bay Area. Nonetheless, it was a good trip overall. The team bounced back after losing to Arizona to get a big win over Arizona State and personally, I set another career high in kills as I got 20 against the Wildcats. I took plenty of photos of the team getting ready, enjoying meals together and actually doing a lot of homework on the long drive between Tucson and Tempe. This team isn't just good at volleyball; this squad is made up of some serious beauty and brains. Speaking of beauty, check out the new hairdo that Tarah got from Salon Carli while we were waiting at the airport. Enjoy the GALLERY|
|Oct. 23-26, 2008 | The trip to Los Angeles is always my favorite. It's nice to go home and play in front of my family. We mixed a little business with pleasure this time around as I set a new career high with 18 kills as Cal beat UCLA at Pauley Pavilion. We went five sets with USC and barely lost but we're still having a great season and I couldn't be more happy with how everything is shaping up. While in the City of Angels, we stayed out in Marina Del Rey and experienced some major LA traffic. It took us an hour to go about eight miles north on the 405 from our hotel to UCLA for the match. I got to spend a little extra time with my family since we didn't have to run off right away like we usually do. Of course, the team had a great time on the road once again after being at home for three weeks. Check us out by clicking on the button to the right. GALLERY|
|Oct. 2-5, 2008 | We took on Washington and Washington State in our first Pac-10 road matches and came away with two 3-0 sweeps. The team is on a hot nine-match winning streak right now and we're really starting to come together as a unit. Aside from winning our matches, heading to the Pacific Northwest was a fun trip. We experienced some heavy rain when we got to Seattle, Wash. and had a chance to do some shopping during our down time. It was a quick turn-around as we went to Pullman, Wash. the very next day. We had some good food and celebrated assistant coach Matt McShane's birthday while we were away. Of course, this being Cal volleyball, we had a great time just being with each other. |Sept. 18-21, 2008 | The team took a short flight to Orange County for the 2008 Crowne Plaza Volleyball Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. We won all three of our matches 3-0 against Central Connecticut State, San Francisco and Fullerton. The highlight of the weekend was getting to play in front of my family and enjoying an evening at the Beck's house in Coto de Caza, Calif. We had some great Mexican food and went swimming in Morgan's pool. We're back home now and ready for the Pac-10 season to begin. Be sure to make plans to come see us play! But for now, check out the photo GALLERY from this weekend.|
Sept. 11-14, 2008 | We went all the way to the Midwest for the 2008 Diet Coke Classic Volleyball Tournament hosted by the University of Minnesota and got a couple of wins; one against Notre Dame and another over a No. 16-ranked Cal Poly team. Along the way, I took some fun shots of the girls on our first trip together. My fellow senior, middle blocker Kat Reilly, celebrated her 21st birthday at our hotel the night after the Notre Dame match. Check out some of the photos from my last "first trip of the year" with the Golden Bears. Click on the photo to the right to see the GALLERY.
