November 10, 2008 BERKELEY - California Women's Tennis Freshman Jana Juricova won the 17th match of her young career as she swept through the ASU Thunderbird Invitational without dropping a single set, making her the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week. This is the second time she has claimed a singles tournament title without ever losing a set (St. Mary's Invitational). She became the fourth consecutive Golden Bear to win the Thunderbird (Cossou 2007, Ravelojaona 2006, Shu 2005) when she defeated Sona Novakova of Armstrong Atlantic, 6-2, 6-1, in the final. She advanced to the final with two wins over UCLA players, 6-2, 6-1, over Nina Pantic in the semifinal and 6-3, 6-1, over Ali Walters in the quarterfinal. In the round of 16, she defeated Denise Muresan of Michigan, 6-1, 6-2. To open up the weekend, she needed a 6-4 first set before taking out Danon Beatty of Fresno State 6-0.
