BERKELEY - The No. 7-ranked Marina Cossou of women's tennis, an Azereix, France native, got three big singles wins at the 2008 Riviera/ITA All-American Tennis Championships this weekend to make her the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cossou defeated No. 15 Megan Falcon of LSU in the opening round, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Next she got a 6-4, 6-4 win against No. 87-ranked Ragini Achraya of William & Mary in the round of 16. She completed her trifecta with a 7-6(2), 6-4 win against No. 11 Georgia Rose of Northwestern in the quarterfinal before falling in a hard-fought three-set match against No. 9 Fani Chifchieva of Auburn in the semifinal.
Although Cossou and partner Claire Ilcinkas were knocked out of the doubles qualifying round, the two held up their No. 22 ranking by taking four wins in the consolation bracket.
