BERKELEY - California earned four singles rankings and two in doubles in the 2012-13 Campbell/ITA Preseason Division I Women's Preseason Rankings announced last week. The Golden Bears are represented in the singles rankings by No. 5 Zsofi Susanyi, No. 22 Annett Schutting, No. 31 Tayler Davis and No. 42 Annie Goransson. The pair of Goransson and Schutting garnered the No. 3 doubles ranking, while Susanyi and freshman Klara Fabikova earned the No. 13 ranking. Fabikova also earned the No. 2 spot in the ITA's Women's Preseason Freshman/Newcomer Rankings. As a team, the 2011-12 Bears ended the 2011-12 season ranked No. 7 in the poll, after falling in the NCAA Tournament's quarterfinal round. Susanyi, a sophomore, completed a stellar freshman season with a 41-8 singles record and the first appearance by a Cal freshman in the NCAA singles semifinal. She also reached the NCAA quarterfinals in doubles with former teammate and current undergraduate assistant coach Jana Juricova. Goransson, a senior, and Schutting, a junior, reached the round of 16 in NCAA doubles, while Schutting fell in the round of 62 in NCAA singles last spring. Davis also played in the NCAA round of 64 last season. The Bears open their fall schedule with the Cal Nike Invitational that runs from Sept. 28-30 at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts.
