BERKELEY - Three members of the No. 5 California women's tennis team were selected as 2007 All-Americans as announced today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Senior Zsuzsanna Fodor, junior Susie Babos and freshman Nina Henkel were named singles All-Americans, with Babos and Fodor earning the honors in doubles, as well. This is the first time since 2000 the Golden Bears have had more than two All-Americans in one season.

For Babos, this is the third straight year she reached All-America status. The 2006 NCAA singles champion ended the 2007 season ranked No. 6 in singles and No. 5 in doubles with Fodor. She finished with an overall singles record of 36-12, including a 14-7 record on the No. 1 court. Babos also won the singles draw in the All-American championships last fall.

Fodor, who transferred to Cal from Mississippi State after her sophomore year, ended her season with a singles ranking of 11 and an overall record of 15-5 on the second court. In the NCAA Tournament, Fodor was at her best, leading Cal to the semifinals. In her five singles matches in the team championships, Fodor won four of them in straight sets with one match unfinished. In 2006, Fodor won the Pac-10 singles title, was named Pac-10 Player of the Year and was an All-American in singles and doubles.

In her first year as a Bear, Henkel made a big impact, notching a final singles ranking of 20. Henkel led the Bears in overall singles victories (40) and dual wins (24). Her Pac-10 dual record of 7-1 tied for the best on the team. She won the ITA Northwest Regional singles draw last fall, knocking off Stanford players in the semifinals and the final.

The Bears ended the 2006-07 season ranked No. 5, their 19th Top-10 finish since 1982. They reached the NCAA semifinals for the sixth time when they upset No. 2 seed and host Georgia, 4-1, in the quarterfinals.
