BERKELEY - Zsuzsanna Fodor has continued her outstanding Golden Bear career this season and has now climbed to No. 12 in the national singles rankings. This past weekend, she cruised to two victories in singles and doubles in the NCAA Regionals, helping Cal to wins over Southeastern Louisiana and 18th-ranked Arizona State. The Bears will now make their second NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in the last three years.
Fodor, who was the 2006 Pac-10 Singles Champion, was the first Cal player to finish in singles both days and completely dominated in both matches. She beat Iva Velkovska of Southeastern Louisiana, 6-1, 6-0, on Saturday and Arizona State's Nadia Abdala, 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday.
In addition to her singles prowess, Fodor is ranked No. 5 in the nation in doubles with partner Susie Babos. The duo won both of their matches this weekend.
Cal, currently ranked No. 10 in the nation, battles No. 6 Clemson on Friday, May 18, in Athens, Ga.
