Bears Run Ends in NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 5 California women's tennis team lost in singles and doubles in the NCAA championships Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears were eliminated in both tournaments as their season officially came to an end.

In the Round of 16 of the singles draw, No. 12 Zsuzsanna Fodor lost for the first time since the Pac-10 championships, falling to No. 2 Megan Falcon of LSU in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. In Cal's other singles match, No. 6 Kristi Miller from national-champion Georgia Tech defeated No. 22 Nina Henkel, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

The Bear's fell in doubles later in the day when the fifth-ranked team of Fodor and Susie Babos lost to No. 12 Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Babos and Fodor, who were named the Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year, won a close first set, but couldn't win the second or third and ended their run at a national title.
