BERKELEY, Calif--The seventh-ranked California women's tennis team continued its early season roll and notched its sixth consecutive dual match victory, dispatching No. 21 San Diego State, 8-1, at the Hellman Tennis Center on the Cal campus Friday afternoon. The victory improved the Bears to 6-0 on the season, while San Diego State fell to 3-2 with the loss.
Amanda Augustus led the way for Cal at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over SDSU's Maggie Cole. The win improved Augustus' overall record to 13-3 and was her first over Cole on the collegiate level. Esther Knox, Anita Kurimay, Stephanie Tibbits and Amy Jensen also registered victories for the Bears as Cal took all but one of the singles matches.
The lone highlight for San Diego State was provided by Sarah Donovan who survived a three-set thriller with Cal's Francesca La'O and produced the Aztecs only point on the afternoon with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
The Bears went on to sweep through doubles play, winning all three matches, to provide the final margin of victory, 8-1.
The California women's tennis team returns to action Saturday, Feb. 14 when the Bears host 10th-ranked Pepperdine in a dual match at the Hellman Tennis Center. Match time is scheduled for 12 noon.SAN DIEGO STATE AT CALIFORNIA
