ISTANBUL, Turkey - California alumna Lauren Boyle celebrated her 25th birthday by winning a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle on Friday at the FINA World Championships taking place at the Sinan Erdem Arena. One day earlier, the two-time New Zealand Olympian won the 800 freestyle at the short-course meet. Boyle, who swam at Cal from 2007-10, clocked a time of 4:01.24 in the 400-free final to become the first New Zealand swimmer to win two medals at one Short-Course World Championships. She next swims in the 200 free on Sunday, the final day of the meet. Universal Sports is televising short-course worlds.
