KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Cal women's swimming recruits continue to make an impact at the elite levels of the sport, as last week Kristen Vredeveld and Taylor Young starred at the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships. Both new Golden Bears reached championship finals at the meet held from Dec. 6-8 at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Competing for the Baylor Swim Club, Vredeveld took third place in the 50-yard freestyle after posting a time of 23.11. A Tennessee native who hails from Chattanooga, she also placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.50. A San Francisco Bay Area product from Rohnert Park, Calif., Young clocked a time of 2:14.95 to clinch third place in the 200 breaststroke. Competing for her Neptune Swimming club, Young also placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.23. Complete results from junior nationals are available at the meet's results website.
