U.S. Men's and Women's Roster for the 2013 World University Games

BERKELEY - Four Golden Bears - current California swimmers Cindy Tran, Catherine Breed and Rachael Acker plus alumna Liv Jensen - earned spots on the U.S. squad for the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia, USA Swimming announced this week. The Bears qualified for Russia with their performances in the U.S. Open meet that was held earlier this month in Indianapolis.

The 27th World University Games take place from July 6-17.

Tran, Jensen and Breed were members of Cal's latest NCAA team title, as the Golden Bears clinched their second straight championship and third in four years last March. Acker is a member of head coach Teri McKeever's much lauded freshman class.

Jensen - who won the 50-yard freestyle at the 2010 and 2012 NCAA Championships - captured the 50-meter free in a time of 25.19 in the U.S. Open at the IUPUI Natatorium. She also played sixth in the 100 free (55.66), behind the fifth-placed Breed (55.62) and ahead of the seventh-place Acker (55.89).

Now a junior, Tran - who won her second straight 100-yard backstroke crown at NCAAs last spring - placed fourth in the 100-meter back (1:01.53) in Indianapolis. She also finished 10th (1:00.17) in the 100 butterfly behind Kelly Naze, another Cal freshman, who was ninth (59.97).

Breed, a sophomore, also finished second in the 400 free (4:10.24) and fourth in the 200 free (1:58.62).
