BERKELEY - Madison Kennedy racked up a gold and silver medal at last week's U.S. Open Championships, notching an automatic bid to next summer's World University Games with her first-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle to make the senior swimmer the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.

During last week's action at Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Kennedy finished her winning 50 free in 25.22. Her silver medal came in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.44.

With the U.S. Open Championships the selection meet for the 2009 World University Games, the gold in the 50 free clinched a spot for Kennedy at the competition July 2-7, 2009, in Belgrade, Serbia.
