OMAHA, Neb. - Former California All-American Emily Silver earned a spot in the 2008 Summer Olympics when she was announced as a member of the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials on Saturday at the Qwest Center. Silver had finished fifth in at time of 54.91 in Saturday's 100-meter freestyle final to earn consideration as a member of the U.S. relay.

Also on Saturday, Silver swam a 25.47 in the 50-meter freestyle semifinals but did not advance to the Sunday final with her 12th-place finish. Jessica Hardy, Silver's former Cal teammate, won the 50-free semi that included Silver and 2008 Cal junior Madison Kennedy. Kennedy swam a 25.39 to finish with the ninth-best time in the 50-free semis - the eighth-place swimmer posted a 25.37 - and just miss out on a spot in the final. Hardy had set an American record of 24.48 in the first 50-free semi, but her mark was broken in the second semi by U.S. Olympic veteran Dara Torres, who swam a 24.38 to win her race.

Cal swimmer Nathan Adrian, looking to add another event to his schedule in Beijing, China, finished sixth in the men's 50-free final and did not qualify for Beijing in swimming's fastest event. Adrian qualified for the Olympics on Friday as a member of the U.S. 4x100-free relay.
