HONOLULU - California sophomore Liv Jensen wrote about what the Golden Bears did last Sunday, Jan. 10 in Hawaii.
Day 5 - Jan. 10
The Golden Bears started off the day with a session back at the President's favorite beach (aka Kailua) after getting up early for the hour-long drive. The water was clear and still, and the brightly shining sun reflected our upbeat attitudes as we worked on applying dryland to our swimming strokes.
After workout, a few Bears lingered at the beach to enjoy the surroundings and paddle around a little bit before clouds moved in to obscure the sun. By the time everyone was back to Waikiki, there was a light drizzle and the cool temperature was decidedly un-tropical. Nevertheless, we were undeterred in our plans for a surfing escapade on our afternoon off. In fact, the poor weather turned out to be beneficial, as many would-be beachgoers chose to remain indoors, and we had plenty of room to maneuver as we got the hang of riding on top of the water instead of swimming in it.
Overalll, day 5 was a lot of fun, although more than a few Bears sustained rashes from long hours spent on surfboards. We are looking forward to tomorrow with wishes that the weather will clear up again!
