Day 4 - Jan 9
Saturday was by far my favorite day yet in Hawaii! We started out by waking up nice and early to go to the pool and have a hard workout. After the practice we had the option of going back to Waikiki or going to the North Shore and exploring over there, which is what I chose to do.
The first stop we made on the North Shore was for Shave (not shaved!!) Ice. It was the most delicious one I have ever had. The fruit syrup tasted so fresh - it was the perfect snack for the hot afternoon. After that we drove to this gorgeous beach where the ocean had bigger waves and was more turbulent than I have ever seen. Some of us decided we wanted to dip our toes in and on our way to the water two lifeguards stopped us and told us there was no swimming allowed, only surfing. Half of us then decided that we wanted to go to a beach where we could body surf, so we went a couple of miles down the road.
This little beach - we later found out it was called Waimea Bay - had the best waves I have seen all week. They were perfect - just a bit bigger than we were used to and were not crashing right on the beach. Liv (Jensen), Shelley (Harper), Caitlin (Leverenz) and I spent the next few hours in the ocean, just catching waves and really enjoying our afternoon off. We then came back and went to Teddy's Bigger Burgers, which is this awesome retro burger joint that makes the thickest milkshakes. We then walked around Waikiki getting postcards for our friends back home, came back to the hotel and went to sleep to get ready for practice and surfing the next day.
