Overton Sets More Records in Day Two

LONG BEACH, CA - In the second of three days of competition at the Pac-10 Championships, California sophomore Elli Overton won the 400 IM (4:11.68), breaking her old school record set last year and qualifying for NCAAs. Junior Marylyn Chiang also performed well, taking second in the 100 back (54.09) next to freshman Haley Cope who placed third (54.89). Both made automatic qualifying marks for NCAAs.

Sophomore Anya Kolibsen finished fifth in the 200 free (1:47.95), while sophomore Waen Minpraphal placed ninth in the consolidation final for the 100 fly (54.47). Both automatically qualified for the NCAAs. Freshman Hanna Jaltner placed fourth in the 100 breast (1:03.17), while sophomore Jenni Brelsford placed seventh (1:04.98).

Both the 800 free relay (Chiang, Kolbisen, sophomore Nicole Omphroy, Overton, 7:25.77) and 200 medley relay (Cope, Jaltner, Chiang, freshman Andrienne Mattos, 1:42.74) placed fourth in those events.

California is currently in fifth place with 682 points, behind Stanford (920.5), USC (870.5), Arizona (721.5), and UCLA (703.5).
