Berkeley - The nationally-ranked California softball team made two announcements on Thursday - the first is an opportunity for Cal students to compete for a chance to walk-on the team via tryouts and the second is an opportunity for young women to be the "bat girl" for home games at Levine-Fricke Field.

Head coach Diane Ninemire will be holding walk-on tryouts for the 2009 season on Thursday, August 28th starting at 3:00 at the Levine-Fricke Softball Field. In order to eligible to participate in the tryout, each individual must meet the following criteria: enrolled full time at Cal (13 units) and in good academic standing; proof of a physical examination by a medical doctor with the past six months; and must have submitted completed walk-on forms (linked below) to the compliance office located in Haas Pavilion.

Also for the 2009 season, Cal is offering young women a chance to be a bat girl at Levine-Fricke Field. Registration will begin October 1, so please check CalBears.com for further instructions in September. Additionally due to NCAA Restrictions those that have started high school are not eligible to be a bat girl.
