BERKELEY - After we met the freshmen in a series of CalBears.com Q&As, it is now time to see how their freshman years faired. First up is infielder Cassandra Vega, who came to the Bears by way of Rialto, Calif. Vega played in eight games this season, hitting .667 with two RBI. Mostly serving as a pinch hitter, Vega also filled in at first base and pitched for three games. CalBears.com jumped at the opportunity to see what it was like for Vega to get one year of college and Division I softball under her belt.

CalBears.com: What was the best part about your fall or spring semester?
Cassandra Vega:
I learned a lot of helpful things for the future, on and off the field.

CalBears.com: Now that you've got one year of collegiate softball under your belt - what was the best part of the softball season?
CV:
The best part about being in season is that time flies and you feel like you're really not away from home for that long.

CalBears.com: After two semesters of college academics, what are you planning on doing differently or the same next semester in terms of school?
CV:
I plan on studying a lot more. I want to get a 4.0 GPA for the remainder of my college career.

CalBears.com: What is something you didn't know before you came to Cal but you now know?
CV:
College is a lot harder than it looks, especially at Cal.

CalBears.com: What was the favorite class you took this year?
CV:
Public Health 103.

CalBears.com: What was the best part about Cal softball this year?
CV:
Being able to go to the World Series.

CalBears.com: Was playing at the NCAA Division I level what you expected or more?
CV:
It was what I expected. All the teams are good so you can never think you have it in the bag.

CalBears.com: What was it like to balance top-notch academics and playing on nationally ranked softball team?
CV:
It was an honor. I was happy to be able to represent both the school and the program.

CalBears.com: What was the first trip to the postseason like for you?
CV:
It was very different and fun. We got to do a lot and see new places. We were there for business and got it done.

CalBears.com: What is one of your most hilarious or embarrassing stories from your freshman year?
CV:
Every time we played ninja!

CalBears.com: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?
CV:
Be yourself! And try to have the most fun that you can.
